2014 Civil Engineering Excellence Awards
WCCE launches its third edition of the Civil Engineering Excellence Awards.Β The first presentation of the Award was made in 2010 during our 5th General Assembly of WCCE. This third edition's awarding ceremony will be held during WCCE's 9th General Assembly to be held in Lisbon, Portugal on the last quarter of 2014.Β Candidacy submissions are open until March 30th.
2013 International Year of Water Cooperation.
On 11 February 2011, the UN General Assembly, in its resolution 65/154, decided to proclaim 2013 International Year of Water Cooperation. Resolution 65/154 calls on the United Nations system and all other actors to take advantage of the Year to promote actions at all levels, including through international cooperation, as appropriate, aimed at the achievement of the internationally agreed on water-related goals contained in Agenda 21, the Programme for the further Implementation of Agenda 21, the United Nations Millennium Declaration and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation, as well as to increase awareness of their importance.
19th November - World Toilet Day
In 2001 WTO declared 19th November World Toilet Day (WTD). Today it is celebrated in over 19 countries with over 51 events being hosted by various water and sanitation advocates.
'Water for Life' UN-Water Best Practices Award
The βWater for Lifeβ UN-Water Best Practices Award is now accepting nominations for its 5th edition. The application period is open between 4 July and 15 September 2014. The theme is βWater and Sustainable Developmentβ, which mirrors that of World Water Day 2015.
The βWater for Lifeβ Best Practices Award aims to acknowledge and promote efforts to fulfill international commitments made on water and related issues by 2015, by recognizing outstanding best practices that can ensure sustainable long-term management of water resources and help achieve the water and sanitation targets of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), Agenda 21 and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation.
