Echoes of the 11th General Assembly of WCCE
WCCE’s 11th General Assembly of the World Council of Civil Engineers was held in San Jose, Costa Rica from 7 to 10 September 2016, organized by the Association of Civil Engineers of Costa Rica in parallel with its the International Congress of Civil Engineering. These activities were welcomed by the Hon. Minister of Public Works of Costa Rica, Carlos Villalta Villegas. Attendance at WCCE activities by our colleagues in Costa Rica and WCCE delegates was very high and enriched our activities with their experience.
Echoes from WFEO's General Assembly
During the past week, WFEO held its General Assembly in Kyoto, Japan on the occasion of the World Engineering Congress 2015. In this Assembly, the Brazilian engineer, Jorge Spitalnik, takes over the presidency for the next two years succeeding the Palestinian civil engineer, Marwan Abdel Hamid. In addition to this, elections to WFEO Executive Board were held with the following results.
- Marlene Kanga, Past President of Engineers Australia has been elected President Elect of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations - WFEO taking over the presidency for the period 2017- 2019. On this same meeting, WCCE's Past President Tomás Sancho has been elected as a national representative to the executive Board of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations - WFEO representing Spanish Instituto de Ingeniería de España. In addition to this several other WCCE member representatives have been elected such as Italy's CNI representative, Nicola Monda.
From WCCE, we want to congratulate them on their election and wish them all the best on their work on behalf of the engineering community.
On other grounds, during this Assembly WFEO presented his tribute to WCCE's founding President and WFEO's former president, José Medem Sanjuan, passed away past January.
Echoes from our 9th General Assembly
The 9th General Assembly of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE), a UN- Water partner, took place in Lisbon from 21- 25 November 2014, hosted by Ordem dos Engenheiros de Portugal on the occasion of an international workshop on Heritage Building restoration at the same venue. The attendance to WCCE activities by our Portuguese counterparts and WCCE delegates was very high and enriched our activities with their expertise.
Echoes from our 8th General Assembly
Almost a month has passed since WCCE held its 8th General Assembly from 10-13 October in Santiago de Cuba. As you may know, UNAICC hosted our 8th General Assembly on the occasion of an international workshop on Tourism & City. The attendance to WCCE activities by our Cuban counterparts and WCCE delegates was very high and enriched our activities with their expertise.

The 10th General Assembly of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE), a UN- Water partner, took place in Victoria Falls, from 15 - 19 September 2015, hosted by the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe on the occasion of UNESCO's African Engineering Week at the same venue. The attendance to WCCE activities by our African counterparts and WCCE delegates was very high and enriched our activities with their expertise.
Diversity Award Candidacies: Deadline June 27th 2014
Call for entries opens for the second global award for diversity champion
Airbus, the leading aircraft manufacturer, and the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC), have launched the call for nominations for the second “Diversity Award”. Its objective is to recognise individuals who have been proactive in bringing more diversity* into engineering schools and universities. The Award was developed and funded by Airbus in partnership with the GEDC, the leading international organisation for engineering education
You can visit www.diversityinengineering.com to find out more about the award and last year’s finalists. I have also attached a flyer, some guidelines for nominees, and the submission form to this email. I encourage you to share any of these documents and/or this email about the award.
The deadline to submit a nominee for this year’s award is 27 June 2014, and each nomination should be supported by a Dean of engineering.
