The 18th WCCE General Assembly meetings were held in Mombasa, Kenya from the 14th to 16th November 2024 culminating in the General Assembly on the 16th. This was held on the sidelines of the 30th IEK International Conference.

Over 4,500 delegates comprising of policymakers, government representatives and Engineers from across the globe attended the 30th IEK International Conference. The event featured enriching sessions such as: 

  • 9 keynote addresses delivered by thought leaders in various engineering disciplines, over 10-panel discussions and presentations, fostering engaging dialogues on critical subjects central to the engineering landscape.
  • 30 research papers that encapsulated, theories, and empirical findings across diverse engineering fields. 
  • 40 sponsors and exhibitors, showcasing state-of-the-art technologies, innovative products, and services relevant to the engineering sector.

Throughout the event, participants had the chance to engage in various networking sessions, enhancing their professional development and fostering connections that are vital for the growth of the engineering community.

The Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya and the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Roads & Transport attended the opening ceremony. World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) President, Eng. Mustafa Shehu was also in attendance.

The General Assembly discussed among others, the activities of the Standing Technical Committees, the modernization of WCCE governing laws and the administrative reorganization of the secretariat, among others. Those participating virtually had full rights to vote.

Minutes of the 17th General Assembly held in Porto, Portugal on 26th January 2023 were approved at the start of the 18th General Assembly.

During the General Assembly, new members were approved to join the World Council of Civil Engineers. Association of Engineers of Uruguay (AIU), Consiglio Nazionale degli Ingegneri (CNI) of Italy, The Concrete Institute (ICI) of India, Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers (SLIE) and Ethiopia Association of Civil Engineers (EACE).
