The World Council of Civil Engineers, the United Nations Office in Spain and Aqualogy Foundation have signed an agreement to publish a series of monographs under the topics chosen annually to commemorate the "International Year of Water" declared by the UN in the 2013-2015 triennium. The publications provided will be devoted to "Water and Cooperation", "Water and Energy" and "Water and Sustainable Development".

United Nations under the International Decade for Action "Water for Life" (2005-2015), among other activities, promotes the coordination of work-related initiatives of UN-Water. The World Council of Civil Engineers includes in its objectives to facilitate technology transfer and cooperation between countries in the fields of civil engineering themselves as water. Meanwhile, Aqualogy Foundation, a forum for reflection, is to promote the debete, boost research and transfer knowledge on water.

For Josefina Maestu, Director of the UN Office in Spain, "the potential of this agreement lies in the possibility of encompassing and representative institutions of excellence in the field of water".

During his speech, Tomรกs A. Sancho, President of the World Council of Civil Engineers, considered essential to "provide society with good practice and the need for technical feasibility in the areas of decision on water issues."

Angel Simon, President of Aqualogy Foundation, believes that this agreement highlights the importance of water as a factor of competitiveness and sustainability to end inequalities: "We moved from a linear economy, when it seemed that the resources were inexhaustible, to a circular economy in which the water will play a key role "

The signing of this agreement was held on june 10th at the premises of Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos, Spanish Institution of Civil Engineers, whose President Juan Antonio Santamera, hosted the signing.
